It turned out to be a warm (around 85) partly sunny day in Pittsburgh today. I got in my stroll around the neighborhood. It was a nice long stroll into Oakland, through Schenley Plaza and on through the campus of the University of Pittsburgh.
Bigelow Blvd. between Forbes Avenue and Fifth Avenue was closed off. Most of the tables outside of the food booths in Schenley Plaza were full of customers. I left the plaza and crossed Forbes Avenue to walk through all the students clustered around the student union building. Many of them were eating free pizza as they stood in lines or crowded around group leaders or just wandered about talking and socializing and getting oriented.
It all brought back my student days at Pitt as a 50-something undergrad and then graduate student and teaching assistant…
Usually when I walk into Oakland and through Schenley Plaza and on through the campus, I take a bus back to my apartment building; but today I didn’t. I walked back home. Yes it is a nice long walk: there and back. I was feeling happy, I guess. I don’t know why I was feeling happy. Maybe I was feeling happy because I finally submitted my online application to keep my monthly student loan payment low. Or maybe I was feeling happy because one week from today I’ll be back on my usual beat in (Bloomfield) Little Italy; or maybe I’m just feeling happy because I like the way my little girlie magazine is evolving.
Hail to Pitt!
