The Old Soldier is proud of all the stories on this blog. Lots of the stories are about sex. There are other stories that have nothing to do with sex. I wrote a lot of the stories. The other stories were written by some very talented contributors.
When I read stories submitted for publication, I look for the usual things: good writing, characterization, an interesting story line and believable dialogue. Oh, and let me add description. I also look for something special. All of the writers that I accept for publication have a commitment to craft. They know the basics: spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Writing stories that a publisher wants to publish and that readers enjoy reading is not an easy task; but it’s comforting for me to know that there are writers out there who take the writing of flash fiction stories seriously.
The Mysteries Of SEO
My self-hosted WordPress.org blog comes with dozens of plug-ins. One of the plug-ins that I use deals with SEO (Search Engine Optimization). It checks every blog post I write before I publish it. I had no idea how nuanced SEO can be; but I have to get better at SEO if this blog is to reach its potential.
As a publisher, I’m committed to showcasing the flash fiction and poetry of aspiring and veteran writers from all over the world. And I’m committed to paying writers for their work.
It’s not easy to break into the New Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette. It takes talent, persistence and patience.
Submissions are presently closed. The next reading period is in December. That’s where the patience comes in. But in the meantime, follow or take out a free subscription and familiarize yourself with what I do publish. Then in December send in your best.
I’m rooting for you.
New Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette is a paying market.
