There were more pedestrians on the streets today. The Old Soldier decided to go outside today. I made the 20 minute walk to Armand’s in Little Italy. It wasn’t too bad. The temperature was around 20 degrees, but there was no wind. And there was little snow on the streets; although here and there the Old Soldier had to be carefull of an icy patch.
I sat at my favorite place at the bar in Armand’s where I could watch cold, gray Liberty Avenue. There were only two other customers in the bar when I got there, a nurse and a fireman. Both had worked the night shift. We talked among ourselves.
The fireman had been called out twice last night to work on broken water lines. The wind chill factor last night was around minus 30 degrees. He said it was awful working in that wind even though each job lasted about 15 minutes. The fire fighters just had to find and turn off the water valves.
The streets were no place to be last night. But the thaw begins Thursday. Thank goodness!
Well, the Old Soldier is now back in his small, warm apartment, drinking beer and listening to some sweet jams on the radio.
No matter how much I defrag and remove unused programs from my computer it still runs fast and slow when it wants to. It’s like ten years old and anyway, there’s very little free space on the hard drive. The Old Soldier is going to invest in a new computer this year.
