Even Hemingway got rejection notices.
Hello hello hello, flash fiction writers all over the world! It’s a gloomy, chilly day in Pittsburgh. I wonder if the sun will ever come out. I wonder if we’ll ever get up to around 70.
But I digress.
Okay, so your stories keep coming back. You send them everywhere, but no one wants them. So what?
When I was a young man, I sent out my stories for years before one got accepted for publication. And I don’t mean three or four years. I mean I got rejection notices for like 15 or 20 years before I got published. I’m not making this up. It nearly drove me crazy. Maybe it did drive me crazy. I think I’m still a little punchy from all those years of rejection.
But enough about me.
What about you? Here’s the question you need to answer: do I need to be a writer or do I only want to be a writer?
PS There was no Internet when I began sending out my stories. So, you’re already way ahead of the game. Don’t give up!
Read. Study. Write.
