The Old Soldier is at the workstation at 5:00 this morning, the last day of September 2014. It’s still dark outside.
Hello hello hello, all my fans of erotic flash fiction who live all over the world! A new day of blogging has just begun. If I get some fun money today, I’m going to stroll into Little Italy and have a couple of beers at Armand’s.
The Steelers Nation is still reeling from the Steelers lose to Tampa Bay on Sunday, a game the Steelers should have won and were winning until the last seven seconds of the game. The pundits were quick to point out that over the past two years the Steelers have been an average football team. And now the Steelers are starting out the 2014 season at 2 and 2.
From Hobby To Business
The PittsburghFlashFiction continues to evolve. It has evolved from being a personal daily journal of a retired baby boomer into a magazine; and it is evolving from a hobby into a business; which means the Old Soldier has to think more and more like a businessman. And like any businessman or businesswoman, I have to keep my eye on the bottom line.
The cost of publishing the magazine is $132 a year for Internet technical support, $85.00 a year for technical support for the site, $15.00 a year for my domain name and $360 a year for submissions. I like to publish two stories a month from contributors. The fee for a story is $15.00.
Well, change is coming.
To help defray some of the costs of publication, I’ve joined the Mr.Skin affiliate program. I’ve also decided to publish fewer contributors.
So, beginning in October, the magazine will publish only one contributor every month. That’s the bad news. The good news is that the fee for an erotic flash fiction story will be raised to $20.00 a story. The magazine will stay a paying market and I will cut the cost of publishing contributors by $120 a year. Even a little niche magazine like this one must meet the demands of the bottom line.
The Old Soldier’s education as an online publisher continues…
This is the Old Soldier reporting for Pittsburgh’s #1 magazine of commentary, local interests, pop culture and sex as art and entertainment.
