Dateline Pittsburgh: 25 March 2017
It’s noon and cloudy outside today but the high will be around 74 and I’m absolutely giddy knowing that sunny, warm days are on the way. I was down in the Wi-Fi Room in the lobby of my apartment building around 6:00 a.m. (before dawn) and one of the residents was already occupying one of the two chairs but I got the other chair so everything turned out okay and for several hours I did those things a full-time professional blogger has to do even when he or she is not blogging like corresponding with three writers that I know and doing some re-tweeting and doing research on several search terms that I use to help people find this blog and I changed a couple of the posts that are stuck to the front page and I added a new link to the masthead and I listened to The Doors on YouTube and I checked my stats for this month and I’m happy to report that so far The Gazette has gotten a little more than 5,000 visitors and a little more than 19,000 page views for March 2017 and there are still six more days to go and I read several of the online news outlets that I follow…
That was a full morning and now I’m flat on my back on the sofa with two pillows under my weary head scribbling in my notebook that is resting against my drawn up legs as I listen to the local 24/7 sports talk show on the radio and maybe later today I’ll publish this blog post if it turns out to be long enough. The life of a full-time professional blogger is not always as glamorous as you may think it is. After I eat a couple of hot dogs I’ll probably put classical music low on the radio and read some more of Sexus by Henry Miller.
It’s five in the afternoon and I’ve just come back from a long walk down to the Pitt campus on what has turn out to be an overcast but warm Saturday in Pittsburgh and you would have thought it was the middle of summer with the numbers of people most of them probably Pitt students stretched out on the lawn and sitting under the Pavillion and at the tables of Schenley Plaza…
Even the acrobats were out practicing their moves on the lawn while the people under the Pavillion and at the tables socialized and read books and did homework and worked on their laptops and ate the food they had bought from the booths along the walkway and as I crossed Forbes Avenue and then walked up to Fifth Avenue and turned toward North Oakland to get back home I saw a bride and her groom standing with the Greek columns of the Mellon Institute Building of Carnegie Mellon University as a backdrop having their pictures taken…
Hail to Pitt!
