I just came back from Armand’s in Little Italy. And yes, I got some inspiration for another blog post: this one. I stopped at Armand’s and shot the breeze with a few of the regulars; but then I left to do a little food shopping at the super market right down the street to pick up a carrot and a green pepper to dice to put in my Ramen Noodles meals I’ll have for the next few days. While I was in the super market a song by The Carpenters played over the PA.
Now I’m a stone rock ‘n’ roller; but I know good music when I hear it and I bought 45s by The Carpenters back in the day. The song was “Close to You” and it brought back some good memories.
Well, I did stop at Armand’s like I said. There were two veterans from my generation sitting at the bar. One had served in Vietnam like me; but the one who had not served in Vietnam had just come back from a visit to California. I’ve never been to California. He told me all about his trip to California and yes he had visited Venice Beach where in 1965 Ray Manzarek had been laying on the beach and Jim Morrison (they had both just graduated from UCLA and had taken a class in film together) came strolling down the beach.
And the rest is history.
