Last night I went in search of The Doors. I clicked on YouTube and put in the search term “the doors live in 1968” and I came up with a gem.
The Doors Live At “Konserthuset” Stockholm 1968 Late Show is The Doors at their best. The Doors toured Europe in 1968 and they stopped in Sweden. There was no visual on YouTube, just a photo of the band, but there was more than an hour of excellent audio; and for this to be a bootleg tape, it sure sounded like the band had their own engineers record the concert. The sound quality is awesome.
Two things struck me about this concert: how much Robbie’s guitar contributed to the band’s sound and how bluesy and jazzy the band sounded. The up tempo songs really swing. With all the improvisation, they sounded like a rock/jazz band. But don’t worry. The band rocks!
Morrison was hitting all the notes, high and low and he wasn’t drunk or high (at least not where you could tell).
They sounded great. No wonder their music is still selling. No wonder the myth is still alive. No wonder the music of The Doors is still just as relevant today as it was over 40 years ago.
The future’s uncertain and the end is always near.-The Doors
