Sex and flash fiction are a perfect match. Foreplay, arousal and then orgasm equal the setup, buildup and then resolution.
Hello, my brother and sister bloggers, poets, readers and writers from all over the world! This is the Old Soldier reporting from Pittsburgh. As I continue to do those technical things behind the scenes that bloggers do, I can’t neglect content. The Old Soldier is not ashamed to admit to being technically challenged; but I love putting up content.
The flash fiction story can handle any subject matter: the meaning of life, love, death, sex…Anything. I like to say that flash fiction is life at 800 words a pop.
Sex has always been a legitimate subject for writers since the invention of writing. The challenge of sex for flash fiction writers, is to not just present the act of sex itself, but to capture the nuances of sex, to frame it. In real life, sex does not take place in a vacuum. And neither should sex in the flash fiction story take place in a vacuum.
This is an old self-imposed rule of mine. And it’s what I look for when I read a submission about sex.
A Blog About Fiction, Poetry And Sex…
This brings us to the make up of this blog. At the core of the editorial content of this blog is the flash fiction story about sex; but once again, there’s more to life than just sex. And there is more to this blog than just sex. That’s the reasoning behind all the other subjects that are covered by the New Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette. This blog is set up like a late-night television talk show (David Letterman); or, like a men’s magazine (Playboy Magazine).
Of course, the New Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette is a one-man operation. So, the Old Soldier can only cover so much ground. I like to stick to the things or the places that I know about personally: karaoke and Little Italy are two of them, but not all of them. I’m happy to report that Del’s in Little Italy has karaoke on Friday nights again.
Still, it’s well-written flash fiction about sex, and the talented contributors who write theses stories, who give this blog its risqué appeal.Cover of the March 2006 issue of Playboy magazine. A Paying Market
Finally, we come to my conviction that writers (and poets) should be paid for their work. Why did I decided to make the New Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette a paying market? Paying my contributors tells my contributors in the strongest terms that I value their investment in this blog. And it allows me to attract the best. Because my overall goal is to make my little blog an exciting experience for my readers.
All this, because of the joy of sex and flash fiction.
