The literature of sex has a long and respectable history. I can count off the usual suspects: Lady Chatterley’s Lover, Moll Flanders, Lolita, Tropic of Cancer and so forth. Is it any wonder that I want the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette to follow the path of this long and respectable tradition of great sex literature when it comes to the very short story?
Hello, my brother and sister writers of erotic flash fiction. It’s a mild (40s), sunny afternoon in Pittsburgh. Winter doesn’t officially arrive until 21 December, but lately we’ve been getting some freezing weather. So today and the next few days of weather in the 40s and 50s will be greatly appreciated by the Old Soldier.
The Old Soldier is in his favorite position, stretched out on his back on the sofa with two fat pillows under his weary head as he thinks deep thoughts and classical music plays low on the radio. There’s beer in the refrigerator. I’m at peace with the world.
The submissions department is open now year round and I’m happen to report that a new writer of erotic flash fiction will have her story showcased in the February issue of this magazine.
What made her story about sex stand out enough that I wanted to publish it?
It was well written. It was believable. It captured a moment in time in a relationship. In other words, the story was a great example of the literature of sex.
