It’s two o’clock in the morning as I sit on the sofa and jot this down in my small, fat notebook. I’ll transcribe what I write to a blog post later today either in the Wi-Fi Room in the lobby of my apartment building or here in my apartment if the kit giving me instructions on how to reconnect to the Internet arrives by mail today. I started using the Wi-Fi Room when my desktop went kaput and I got a laptop. The Internet in the Wi-Fi Room is free and for several months I saved around $35.00 each month on my phone bill using the Wi-Fi Room. But since the free Wi-Fi is really the Wi-Fi of the building manager and I don’t like to be in the Wi-Fi Room during business hours because I can hear everything that goes on in the manager’s office since her office opens into the Wi-Fi Room which can lead to some awkward moments I finally decided it made more sense to pay for my own Internet once again anyway.
And besides, if I’m a full-time professional blogger like I claim to be I need my own Internet connection. But it sure was nice having an extra $35.00 a month in my pocket for as long as it lasted and it lasted for a long time. When you’re retired on a modest social security check and two modest pension checks every month like I am $35.00 extra a month comes in handy…
I never want to work for anyone else again. I love the freedom of being retired even if I have to make small economies to make my money go as far as possible. It’s worth it. I love being a full-time professional blogger. I even make a little money at blogging. And what do I blog about? Well, I blog about what I know. I blog about blogging and karaoke and writing flash fiction. I blog about hanging out in Little Italy. I blog about the authors I read and sometimes about the movies on DVDs that I get from the public library then watch on my laptop, a new experience for me. I blog about life.
I’m a baby boomer. I’ve seen a little bit of life. I’m no expert on life, but I’ve seen a few things. Welcome to the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette, a blog/magazine of culture for adults only.
