Two years ago, there were five bars in Little Italy in Pittsburgh that had karaoke, all on different nights of the week. Now there are only three: Vino’s, Caliente’s and Nico’s. All five of the bars are within about an eight block area in the commercial district.
I now sing at Nico’s which has karaoke in the dinning room on Saturday nights. I was at Nico’s last Saturday night and it was the first time in my memory that only a few people showed up for karaoke.
I hope this is not a pattern.
Del’s in Little Italy use to be the in-place for karaoke on Friday nights. This went on for years. It was standing room only. Now there is no karaoke at Del’s. And there’s no karaoke at the Pleasure Bar.
The Old Soldier understands that each in-place has a certain life span. I just hope that Nico’s is going through a summer drought. I was at Nico’s three times this month for karaoke. I won’t be there tomorrow, but I will be there the first Saturday night in August.
And the beat goes on.
