I’m in debt over my head and it’s my own fault. I’m months behind in my rent. I turn off the phone because collection agencies are constantly calling. When I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2006 with my MFA in writing I knew I didn’t want to stay in academia. I was contributing flash fiction and articles to a local weekly and was being paid. The editor said he was going to hire me as his fiction editor. So I thought I was on my way. Then the weekly went under and the editor wouldn’t answer my emails or phone calls.
In my arrogance I thought I could make a living as a blogger. Now, today I’m broke and scrambling to use my degree to land a job. Down and out in Pittsburgh. This is part of the story behind the flash fiction on this blog.
PS. Don’t cry for me flash fiction fans. It’s all part of the flash fiction life.
