It seems our leaders in Washington DC have gotten so much heat over the dysfunctional Veterans Administration Hospital System that they are actually going to do something about it.
Media news outlets are reporting that an agreement has been hammered out by a committee of Democrats and Republicans that will be submitted to the entire House that will authorize billions of dollars to be invested to upgrade the present system, to add new facilities, to hire more doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers and to speed up processing veterans who need care.
The plan is to have the entire House vote on the bill and to have the bill on the desk of the president before Congress goes on vacation Friday.
The question many veterans, including myself, are asking is why did it take an unfolding national scandal to alert Congress that the VA Hospital System needed to be reformed? The system has been rotting from the inside out for decades.
