The Old Soldier has to comment on the Veterans Administration (VA) healthcare scandal. I get most of my news from the Internet and from the radio and lately the scandal in the VA healthcare system has been in the news.
It seems that many hospitals in the healthcare system that serves veterans have been fixing their books to hide the fact that veterans are getting shoddy healthcare, shoddy healthcare to the point that accusations are flying around that veterans are dying who should not die.
Which brings into question the entire idea of government sponsored healthcare; because the VA healthcare system is government sponsored healthcare.
I want Obamacare to work. The idea of universal healthcare for all Americans is a very appealing idea to me. The initial launching of Obamacare was a disaster. It gave critics of the program another powerful argument against it and it dismayed the program’s supporters.
Critics of Obamacare say this government sponsored healthcare system will never work because it eliminates competition; and it is competition that brings down prices and delivers more efficient healthcare.
Is this why the VA healthcare system is failing so many of our veterans because within the system there is no competition? Is this what will happened to Obamacare?
The VA healthcare scandal is a news story that is not going away. It shouldn’t go away until the system is fixed. If it can be fixed. I’m a Vietnam War veteran. So far I’m in pretty good health. Of course, that could change any day. If I live long enough, I will need the VA healthcare system. What kind of healthcare will I get?
The Old Soldier is going to keep a close eye on this one. All Americans should keep a close eye on this one.
