The Old Soldier just came back from Armand’s in Little Italy here in Pittsburgh and I decided to title this post “The View From Armand’s.” Of course, I want to write about more than just the view from what has turned out to be my favorite neighborhood bar. I just go to Nico’s in Little Italy on Saturday nights when I can afford to for the karaoke. I’ll be at Nico’s tomorrow night.
I didn’t plan for Armand’s to be my favorite bar, but the patrons are friendly and the beer is cheap. The bar opens at 10:00 a.m. I’m retired with no wife or children and I have plenty of time on my hands. The patrons at Armand’s are an older crowd. Remember, the Old Soldier is a senior citizen and I have a very modest but secure income. I’ve been an enthusiastic bar aficionado my entire adult life. That’s not going to change.
So, today I sat on a high stool in Armand’s next to the front window that has an excellent view of Liberty Avenue, the main drag in Little Italy and I thought deep thoughts about life, love, writing, sex and death. And publishing and editing. I had a lot on my mind.
Did you know that this site is considered a porn site? It’s banned in the public libraries. One of my writers said that I could now consider myself a pornographer. Ha ha ha! I’m a 67-year-old pornographer. I like it.
I got my new (refurbished) computer yesterday. So I have to go through the transition of setting it up and making sure I still have email contact with all my regular contributors and that I can still get into the business accounts that I deal with because every computer has a different IP address. The Old Soldier is learning more about computers every day.
Lori Schafer Writes Erotica
For the next several days I will be featuring an interview and the erotic flash fiction of one of my regular contributors, Lori Schafer, on the front page. Check out her interview and her work and find out just what literary erotic flash fiction is all about.
This is the Old Soldier reporting for the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette, a blog of art, culture, creative writing, local interest and sex.
