The Old Soldier is in a reflective mood today, that’s why the title of this post is “The View From Here.” I guess this post is my “State of the Union” address for the magazine. So what is the state of the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction?
Do you want the good news or the bad news first?
Let’s begin with the good news and there is a lot of good news. My new computer makes publishing the magazine an absolute pleasure. No more waiting for anything. Load times are great.
Alexa Night, a new and talented writer, joins my team of regular contributors which includes Heather Kinnane, Anna Bayes, Gwil Thomas, Lori Schafer and Bethany Sage. Alexa’s first erotic flash fiction story will be published some time this month.
I’ve hired two IT teams, one for my Internet connection and one for this site, to help me resolve any technical problems that may occur. And they are very good. And very hands on and very patient and professional.
This magazine of erotic flash fiction is an original as far as I can tell. And I have a definite long-term vision for what it can be.
And last but not least, I’ve grown as an editor, as a publisher and as a webmaster.
A solid foundation to build on is now in place.
So what’s the bad news?
I don’t know what the magazine’s potential is for growth. I would like to think this magazine would appeal to a vast audience, that it has the potential for 1,000 pageviews every day. For the month April I’m averaging 27 pageviews every day. I must admit, I’m baffled.
Of course, I’m still learning how to market the magazine and social media is not one of my strong points. But I’m working within definite time limitations. Most of my time is spent trying to come up with a steady flow of quality content with tags like “erotic flash fiction” that improve my SEO and help my page ranking.
And I’m competing against other webmasters who know far more than I do about getting and keeping a high page ranking.
I would like to think that my little magazine of erotic flash fiction could reach an average of several hundred pageviews every day if not 1,000 every day.
So, there you have it, the view from here. Oh, the word “view” is the focus word for this blog post, but “erotic flash fiction” is the focus word for the entire magazine and as of this morning the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction is ranked on page one of Google for the search term “erotic flash fiction.” The magazine has broken into the top ten and is climbing.
Hello hello hello, all my brother and sister readers and writers of erotic flash fiction from all over the world! It’s a sunny day in Pittsburgh and the high will be around 53 degrees.
The Old Soldier is thinking about strolling down to the campus of the University of Pittsburgh and walking through Schenley Park and then walking down Dawson Street to stand in front of the home where Andy Warhol grew up for a moment of reflection.
