I look at this blog and I wonder, “What would Andy Warhol do with it?”
Andy Warhol grew up in Pittsburgh in South Oakland near the University of Pittsburgh. I live in North Oakland. Of course, I have no idea what he would do with this blog. It’s just a game I play with myself. The game gives me permission to be outrages, to be provocative, to be smutty. Warhol was all these things. And he was a workaholic, too. I still have to emulate that one.
I look forward to the bi-monthly issues of Interview magazine. It’s the magazine Warhol published. The public library gets a copy every two months. I sit in the browsing room in the library and slowly go through the magazine, scanning the interviews of the movers and shakers of film, music, fashion, culture and art. I look at the large glossy ads. I wonder how much the high-priced models and celebrities were paid to sell a life-style that I’ll never know anything about.
The Old Soldier is just a lowly blogger, trying to increase the pageviews of his blog, and hungry for his 15 minutes of fame (or infamy).
So, sometimes this blog is outrageous, provocative and smutty. But it’s not my fault. You can blame it all on Andy Warhol.
Pittsburgh Pirates: First Winning Season In 21 Years
It hasn’t happened yet; but the Old Soldier is predicting that this will be the season the Pittsburgh Pirates win more games than they lose for the first time in 21 years. It’s still August and the team needs only six or seven more wins to have a winning season.
But it’s a funny thing. Fans calling in to the radio sports show that I listen to want more. They want the Pirates to make the play-offs and nothing less.
This is the Old Soldier reporting from Pittsburgh.
New Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette is a blog of stories, poetry and sex.
