(Editor’ Note: This post was first published on 12 October 2013.)
Yes, you may have to pay a price if you want to write erotic flash fiction. Writing erotic flash fiction for this magazine has caused problems for several of my contributors.
Let me tell you about my own experiences as a writer and publisher of erotic short stories.
My old blog was averaging over 700 pageviews every day. I was making money from ads, as much as one dollar every day. It wasn’t much, but I had hopes of doubling or even tripling my revenue in the near future. I had over four years of content on the blog.
Certain relatives disapproved of all the adult content and a lot of women thought I was a creepy old man. I soldiered on. But the day came when my blog was shut down. I lost four years of content and all that potential income.
My new blog, this one, is self-hosted which means I will not be shut down for adult content. It also means that the Old Soldier is starting over.
That’s the price I paid for writing and publishing erotic flash fiction and for having adult content on my blog.
Several of my contributors have also found that writing erotic fiction comes with a price. My advice is, if you want to write erotic flash fiction, don’t use your own name and be careful who you confide in about your sexy alter-ego.
Columbus Day Parade
I wrote this post in my notebook as I sat at a small table against the wall at Armand’s in Little Italy enjoying a couple of draft beers. It turned out to be a warm, sunny day, a perfect day for a parade. All the patrons are turned to the open door and the big window as the Columbus Day Parade marches down Liberty Avenue.
It’s a great day to be Italian. (Not so great for Native Americans.)
This is the Old Soldier reporting from Pittsburgh.
