Yes, you can teach yourself to write flash fiction. All writers teach themselves to write. That doesn’t mean a writer learns in a vacuum. It does mean that writers take what they learn in the classroom, in workshops and from experience, and in the fire of their imaginations turn all of these elements into short stories of 1,000 words or less.
The ability to teach yourself to write, to learn what you must learn, is an essential part of the makeup of a writer. It is at the core of what a writer must do.
I would like to offer this blog as one of the things a writer can use to learn how to write the very short story. This blog is dedicated to the writing of flash fiction. It is dedicated to showcasing the work of talented writers. It is published in the City of Pittsburgh, but I publish writers from all over the world.
So, explore the site. Go to the sidebar and scroll down to “Guest Writers.” These writers are the proof that, yes, you can teach yourself to writer the very short story.
Summer’s Almost Gone
It is still summer in Pittsburgh, but at night, as I doze on the sofa, trying to come up with ideas for content for the New Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette, I can smell autumn in the air.
The college students have returned from summer vacation. They are everywhere in Oakland, the neighborhood that I live in. But that’s okay. My beer money should arrive by this weekend which means I’ll be at Nico’s in Little Italy for karaoke Saturday night. And since the college students are back, there’s a good chance that once again karaoke at Nico’s will be rockin’.
This is the Old Soldier reporting from the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
New Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette is a blog of stories, poetry and sex.
