Write me a letter and I’ll publish it.
Hello, everyone! This is the Old Soldier with another edition of the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette, the online magazine of writing, culture and erotic short stories.
It’s an overcast day in Pittsburgh and the high will be only around 60, a good day for the Old Soldier to return some books to the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, the city’s public library system.
Have you ever written a letter to your local newspaper? I did once about 30 years ago. My letter was not published. I don’t even remember what my letter was about.
There’s a Letters To The Editor tab in the masthead of this magazine. Check it out. Submit your letter today.
There was an article by Alex Zimmerman in yesterday’s Pittsburgh City Paper about homeless camps being fenced-off by PennDOT (the local public transportation system) so that the homeless in these camps could no longer use the camps because the camps were too near property used by PennDOT.
PennDOT has earmarked $240,000 for the task.
In the article the question was asked, “They have money to fence the bridges off; why not fund shelters?”
Indeed. Why not fund the agencies that work to get the homeless off the streets and help them to become gainfully employed?
The Old Soldier is no social engineer; but evicting the homeless from one part of the city just moves the homeless to another part of the city.
The Old Soldier is just suggesting that maybe, maybe there’s a better way to use that $240,000 if PennDOT doesn’t want the homeless sleeping under bridges that PennDOT uses for transportation.
This is the Old Soldier reporting from Pittsburgh.
